The Built Environment School Trust and My Environment My Future (MEMF) are thrilled to announce their annual school competition for the fifth consecutive year. The competition invites young people aged 11–18 across the UK to reimagine their local urban environments, with sustainability as a core focus throughout the design process.
This year’s theme, “Building a Sustainable Future,” challenges students to tackle one of society’s most pressing issues. The competition spotlights a crucial challenge in the built environment sector, which is currently the largest contributor to global CO2 emissions and landfill waste. As the sector evolves to address sustainability, it offers young people exciting opportunities to make a significant impact. Students passionate about creating a sustainable future will find the built environment an ideal career path for driving positive change and innovation.
The competition has been designed with dual objectives: to empower the next generation to think innovatively and create meaningful change within their local communities, while highlighting the diverse and rewarding career pathways available in one of the UK’s most financially rewarding sectors. Through participation in the competition, students will develop key skills such as teamwork, problem-solving, and presentation abilities, while discovering how they can make an impact on both the planet and their local communities.
The competition is open to all schools and is free to enter. It runs from 13th of January to 16th of May. Winners in each category will receive a £50 voucher, and every participant will receive a personalized certificate.
